Urology Center of the Philippines Marks Milestone with First Toumai® Robotic Surgery

QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES — The Urology Center of the Philippines (UCPI) has officially entered the era of robotic-assisted surgery with the successful acquisition and clinical launch of the Toumai® Laparoscopic Surgical Robot. This landmark move positions UCPI as a pioneer in the country, utilizing the first Chinese-developed robotic system to be introduced into Philippine clinical practice.
Historic First Case
The surgical program achieved a major breakthrough on March 31, 2025, with the successful completion of the Philippines' first Toumai®-assisted radical prostatectomy. Lead Surgeon Dr. Enrique Ian Lorenzo was assisted by Dr. Patrick Tuliao and Dr. Ulysses Quanico.
The initiative was spearheaded by UCPI Hospital Director Dr. Pedro Lantin III.
Technological Edge
The acquisition of the MicroPort MedBot technology provides UCPI surgeons with advanced force-sensing technology, offering real-time tactile feedback that enhances control and safety during delicate maneuvers. This technology is designed to offer patients faster recovery times, reduced blood loss, and shorter hospital stays compared to traditional open surgery.
