Robotic Innovation Redefines Stone Surgery at EAU26

The landscape of endourology is witnessing a transformative shift as robotic-assisted retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) moves from an experimental concept to a clinical mainstay. During the EAU26 Congress, held from 13–16 March 2026, experts like Prof. Sung Yong Cho highlighted how robotic platforms are addressing the long-standing challenges of manual endoscopic procedures, which are often physically demanding and cognitively fatiguing for surgeons

By integrating robotic assistance, practitioners can transition toward a more automated, standardized, and reproducible workflow that prioritizes precision and safety in the management of upper urinary tract stones. Real-world experience, particularly in Korea where the technology is used at over ten institutions, underscores benefits such as enhanced instrument control and real-time decision support through augmented surgical perception.
