Ureteroscopy (URS)

What is Ureteroscopy?

Ureteroscopy (URS) is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure to diagnose and treat problems in the ureter and kidney — most commonly kidney and ureteral stones.

How it is Performed

A thin flexible or semi-rigid telescope (ureteroscope) is passed through the urethra and bladder into the ureter without any external incision. A laser fiber is then used to break stones into tiny fragments.

Recovery

Most patients return to normal activities within a few days. A ureteral stent may be placed temporarily to ensure good drainage during healing.

Benefits

  • No external incision
  • High stone-free rates
  • Short recovery
  • Outpatient or short-stay procedure
