Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT)
What is TURBT?
Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) is an endoscopic procedure to remove tumors from the bladder lining. It is both diagnostic and therapeutic.
How it is Performed
A resectoscope is passed through the urethra into the bladder. The tumor is resected (cut away) using electrical energy or laser, and the specimen is sent for pathologic analysis.
After TURBT
Depending on the pathology, intravesical therapy (BCG or chemotherapy instillation) may be recommended to prevent recurrence. Follow-up cystoscopy is essential for surveillance.
