What to Expect After Kidney Stone Surgery
Immediately After Surgery
- You will be monitored in the recovery room before discharge or transfer to a ward
- Mild discomfort, pink urine, and urinary urgency are common and expected
- A ureteral stent may be in place — this can cause bladder discomfort and frequency
At Home

- Take prescribed pain medications and antibiotics as directed
- Avoid strenuous activity for 1–2 weeks after ureteroscopy, or 2–4 weeks after PCNL
- Strain your urine to catch stone fragments for analysis
Warning Signs — Call Your Doctor
- Fever above 38.5°C
- Severe pain not controlled by medication
- Heavy bleeding in urine
- Inability to urinate
- Stent displacement (if applicable)
